Here you can find information on what projects and events PTPI Student Chapters have completed during past Global Youth Service Days.

Global Youth Service Day 2010 Projects:

  • PTPI's Plovdiv, Bulgaria (Smiles) Student Chapter In celebration of GYSD 2010, PTPI's Plovdiv, Bulgaria (Smiles) Student Chapter carried out a variety of activities to engage their peers and community members. One of the chapter's activities was a campaign against school violence and aggression. Chapter members created posters, asked students and teachers to sign them in support of their campaign and hung the posters in their school. The chapter engaged the community in the project by getting signatures on posters from passersby in the center of Plovdiv. Additionally, the chapter picked up trash on Bunardzika, one of the hills with important statues in Plovdiv. Finally, the chapter hosted a health bazaar in the center of town to promote a healthy lifestyle. The chapter's GYSD events were widely promoted in their community on the radio and Internet, and in newspapers.
  • PTPI’s Monofeia, Sadat City, Egypt (Sadat City Peacekeepers ) Student Chapter In celebration of GYSD 2010, PTPI's Monofeia, Sadat City, Egypt (Sadat City Peacekeepers) Student Chapter hosted orphans from Khatatba for a day in a park in Sadat City. A chapter member remarked, "We played together, we ate together, and we laughed together. We made a difference."
  • PTPI’s Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sri KDU) Student Chapter In celebration of GYSD 2010, PTPI's Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sri KDU) Student Chapter carried out a beach cleanup at the Eagle Ranch Resort in Port Dickson. Additionally, members posted signs to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the beach clean. The chapter promoted its event through a press release in its local newspaper and shared its GYSD experience on its blog found at http://ptpikualalumpur.blogspot.com/.
  • PTPI's Vaslui, Romania (Mihail Kogalniceanu) Student Chapter In celebration of GYSD 2010, PTPI's Vaslui, Romania (Mihail Kogalniceanu) Student Chapter made a big difference in the lives of elderly individuals in its community. Twenty-one chapter members spent time at a monastery where they met elderly individuals who had been abandoned for reasons such as having a lack of relatives and financial resources, or being physically unable to work. The nuns and priest of the church at the monastery built a small shelter for the elderly people.

To assist the elderly, chapter members raised money from two schools and used the money to buy blankets, sheets, games and 12 bags of food. After the students delivered the items and spent time with the elderly, the Chapter's Adult Advisor, Liliana Ciobanu-Harhas, reflected, "The most impressive thing was not that we managed to make them this nice surprise, but the fact that our members talked and spent some time with these people. We cried, prayed and discussed how nobody should ever be abandoned."
  • PTPI’s Central Valley, California (Stockton) Student Chapter In celebration of GYSD 2010, PTPI's Central Valley, California Student Chapter assisted the Delta Rotary in its Fried Asparagus Tent at the Stockton Asparagus Festival, working with 1200 other volunteers during a three-day period frying, salting, cheesing, and serving fried asparagus. The chapter received part of the earnings, which will be donated to Heifer International in Haiti. The chapter plans to continue its efforts to support Heifer International, and it attributes its success to great teamwork.
